Nintendo Wii U still waiting for LoveFilm as service launches on original Wii

Nindendo's Wii U is still waiting for Amazon's LoveFilm on-demand video streaming service to launch, despite the app coming pre-loaded on UK consoles and the original Wii getting an update this week.

The Wii has become the latest in a long line of devices compatible with LoveFilm, including the Xbox 360 and PS3 games consoles, Android smartphones and tablets including Amazon's own Kindle Fire HD, iOS devices and Smart TV systems.

With prices starting from £4.99 a month, LoveFilm has plenty of new films and modern classics, including The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Social Network, as well as TV series including period drama Downton Abbey and a full seven seasons of American medical series Grey's Anatomy. LoveFilm members who own a Wii can download the LoveFilm app from the Wii Shop Channel for free today and start streaming right away.

LOVEFiLM managing director Jim Buckle made no mention of delays at the announcement, saying "We offer our customers a great selection at exceptional value and the huge array of platforms we’re now available on means it’s never been easier or more convenient for our customers to access what they want to watch, however and wherever they choose.”

However, new Wii U owners may be tempted to make the switch to rival company Netflix, which launched along with the console on the 30th of November. Until Amazon activates the LoveFilm channel, Wii U owners will have to wait to watch the latest films.
